Howbert Elementary's PTA will host its fifth annual Walk-A-Thon Wednesday, Oct. 3 as the school's major fundraiser for the year.
Starting at 8:45 a.m. and continuing for about 45 minutes, Howbert students, staff, family and supporters will walk laps around the school playground in fulfillment of sponsorship pledges.
Last year the event earned its all-time high of $18,000, according to Principal Bryan Relich.
The bulk of the pledge donations will go for additional computer laptops, he said, adding, “we're trying to keep up with the 21st century.”
In support of the event, Relich said representatives of the Colorado Springs Police and Fire departments have been invited, along with the Switchbacks soccer team mascot (Ziggy) and Fort Carson's 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, which has joined the school for the event in the past.
A District 11 public school (grades K-5), Howbert is in the Pleasant Valley neighborhood at 1023 31st St.
Donations for the Walk-A-Thon can be made by calling the school at 328-4200.
