30th Street to close Sept. 20 between Kiowa and Colorado
As a water-main replacement project picks up momentum, 30th Street will be closed between Kiowa Street and Colorado
Avenue starting Monday, Sept. 20. The closure will last about two weeks, according to Juan Pacheco, project foreman for Pate
Construction, which is replacing an existing 8-inch main down the center of 30th Street with a 12-inch line. The job, performed
under contract with Colorado Springs Utilities, is necessary to upgrade the water flow, according to a Utilities spokesperson.
Preparation work this week chiefly involved pouring concrete at side streets and alleys next to 30th Street to anchor new water- line valves, Pacheco said. Occasional single-laning has been necessary at times.
The overall project, between Colorado and Platte avenues, is expected to last until mid-October. Occasional, temporary ser- vice disconnections in that area are anticipated; notification is to be provided to affected customers.
