What do you do?
Robin Roberts
Where do you work and what is your title? I am president of Pikes Peak National Bank, a community bank that has been in Old Colorado City since 1957. What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for? I am responsible for everything that happens in the bank. I work with a group of really great employees who serve our customers well, so I am also responsible for making sure they are taken care of. The bank sponsors a KRDO radio show called The Saturday Business Magazine and I am the host. The show highlights and supports small businesses in the Pikes Peak region and covers topics most likely to be of interest to business owners. How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside? I’ve been in banking for 16 years and on the Westside with Pikes Peak National since 1999. I’ve been the bank’s president since 2003. What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)? Our customers, without a doubt. If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be? Due to the recession, the public perception of the banking profession has deteriorated. I think a differentiation between the very large banks and smaller regional and community banks would be beneficial and appropriate. They really are not the same thing and shouldn’t be lumped together, even as an industry. What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for? The effects of the recession on our customers, our employees and the bank. What makes working on the Westside special? The Westside is such a unique small business environment, and the business mix has really changed over the past few years. It’s not just a tourist destination any longer (even though that’s important). It’s also become a destination for locals and that’s encouraging for the area. “What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776. |
