County personnel will also be on hand at the Equestrian Center Sunday, Sept. 19, from 8:30 to noon, for the free Usable Paint Giveaway Program. In this program, any usable paint that has been turned in will be made available to the public at no charge.
The collection is open to all residents from El Paso and Teller counties. A non-perishable food item is requested as a donation.
No business waste or tires will be accepted. Households are limited to 50 pounds of solid waste and 5 gallons of liquid waste.
Possible items include antifreeze, old oil, household chemicals, paint, cleaners, aerosols, poisons, fireworks and ammunition.
Any household item marked, “Keep Away From Children,” or “Caution” should be brought to the collection.
To access the collection, go to 21st Street and take Rio Grande Street east from there to the Equestrian Center.
To speed up the drop-off process, separate and box materials as follows: explosives, auto batteries, antifreeze, oil, paint and paint-related products, and chemicals.
Any volunteers who would like to help would be appreciated. Lunch, snacks, safety equipment, and a t-shirt will be provided for all volunteers.
The Chemical Waste Collection is a service of the El Paso County Solid Waste Management Department, which also runs a permanent, year-round collection facility on Marksheffel Road - open by appointment only. Call 520-7878 for more information about the facility or the annual collection.
