What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
Range Gallery. The gallery showcases my photography. Iím the owner.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
My dog and I run the business together. I do the photography, framing for my work and custom framing for customers, teach photography classes and print for customers, too. My dog runs the front, greeting people.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I have worked in the photography industry for 30 years, doing any and all work related to photography so my experience has been diverse and, pardon the pun, focused. I moved my gallery to Old Colorado City almost four years ago.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I get my energy from meeting and talking to people who share my intense passion for photography, whether itís a student in one of my classes or a customer in the gallery.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
That I could be in two places at once, in the gallery and in the field shooting, because I like them both equally, but canít do Ďem both at the same time.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
Iíve worked for 30 years, honing my craft, learning everything I can about the subject I love and continuing to experiment and learn. But nothing ever prepared me for the incredible satisfaction that comes from being appreciated and respected by strangers for work that I do for pure fun, for love of the craft. Iím so grateful.
What makes working on the Westside special?
The wonderful combination of tourists and neighbors that come through my door every day. I love getting to know new people but also like feeling at home, surrounded by friendly familiar faces, the Westside is the best of both worlds.
ďWhat do you do?Ē is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesnít live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
