Meet a Westsider:
Mark Kirkland

Sept. 6, 2018
Profession/Occupation... Fine-jewelry consultant for All That Glitters in Old Colorado City. This is my second time at the store, having been its manager from 1992 to 1996. I also had a small photography gallery in Old Colorado City.

What I like most about the Westside is... I appreciate the Westside for so many reasons. Right up at the top is the fact that neighbors are still friendly to each other, like neighbors should be.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be...Nighttime would be as safe as daytime.

A good movie I've seen recently is... “The Shack.” It was so enjoyable because it really made me think. After reading the book, I was fascinated to see how they would cast a movie about God and “Her” cabin in the woods!

The worst advice I've ever gotten was... that each of us is the center of our universe. How far from the truth could that be? I'm thrilled to know that God is the center of the universe and my job is to be the best father, husband and man that I can be. My favorite quote is from my Dad: “Never play poker with a millionaire.” (He's 92 now!)

If I could meet someone famous, I'd like to meet... I suppose if I could meet anyone living or dead, I would choose Ronald Reagan. His wisdom and wit were uniquely his own, and he helped this country in ways that no one thought possible. Who else could have brought down the Berlin wall without firing a shot?!

The next time I travel, I'm going to... take my family to The Great Barrier Reef for some scuba diving and snorkeling.

My favorite childhood memory is... I grew up camping and fishing all over the mountains of Colorado. I wouldn't trade those memories for anything.

My favorite summer pastime is... fly fishing.

Something good I've read is... The most impactful book I have read is “How to Win Friends and Influence People.” I read it at least once a year.

My pet peeve is...construction work on every road!

If I won the lottery, I'd... free my wife from her job! I met Tina when we were both professional photographers. Fifteen years later, we decided to get married and we realize now that our best years are still ahead. We both grew up just up Ute Pass in Green Mountain Falls and Chipita Park. We were neighbors for years and didn't even know it. We have been living on the Westside of Colorado Springs since we got married in 2016.
