Meet a Westsider:
I’m an electrician for Ace Electric II and the vice president of the Mesa Springs Community Association.
What I like most about the Westside is... the mature trees and older houses. They have so much history. I also like how people drive slower and do not ride on your tail like they do up north or out east. We also have some of the best parks and hiking trails. I love that the bike trail that connects Manitou to downtown is almost done.
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... the developers. Because they are running out of room everywhere else, they’re dissecting the Westside to find every possible place to build more houses, which in part takes away more open spaces and wildlife.
A good movie I’ve seen recently is... I really like to watch “Man vs. Wild” – an outdoor survival television series with Bear Grylls.
I'd like to discover... more single women my age on the Westside.
If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... Bear Grylls, an expert on outdoor survival and an adventurer.
The next time I travel, I’m going... visit New Zealand. It seems pretty incredible with the landscapes and oceanscapes. The different animals, such as the red deer, would be cool to see.
My favorite childhood memory is... I grew up in Oklahoma. My friends and I would either go exploring in the woods or take a trip to the creek with whoever’s parents would drive us. Usually when we were exploring down there we would catch all kinds of snakes and scorpions. We once found some old army bunkers underground and a few caves. When we went out to the creek, we would usually catch little swimming turtles and fill a five-gallon bucket full of crawdads. When we weren't doing that, we would jump off of rocks and bridges. It was a lot of fun growing up there.
My favorite summer pastime is... actually, I’m looking forward to fall. I’m a Broncos fan so I like watching the game! I also enjoy going to the festival in Crested Butte that celebrates the coming of winter. It’s called Vinitok and there’s a creature, called “the Grump,” who represents all evil. The townspeople gather around and give him a trial, find him guilty and then “burn” him in a huge bonfire at the end of Main Street. It’s something that looks like it’s out of a witchcraft book but is all in good spirits (fun.)
Something good I’ve read is... “Cesar’s Way,” by Cesar Millan. This book helps you understand dogs and work with them, so you both can live happy lives with a healthy relationship.
My pet peeve is... people that feel sorry for themselves and don’t do anything about it even though they are completely physically able to change their lives for the better.
If I didn’t have to work for a year, I would... I’d spend more time starting up my new sports company So Col (stands for “southern Colorado”), which pertains to outdoor sports (rock climbing, kayaking, skateboarding, snowboarding and wakeboarding).
