Waldo terrorist link rejected
The premise of a well-watched youtube video, that the Waldo Canyon Fire of June 2012 may have been started by terrorists, has been rejected by Colorado Springs officials.
Police spokesperson Barbara Miller quoted Deputy Chief Vince Niski that “CSPD does not have any evidence to support a connection and as such, is not directing our investigation [that way].” Miller added that Niski “is very aware of what was on it [the video].”
No one has been arrested as yet in the fire, although authorities determined months ago that it was “human caused.”
The video, which now has more than 300,000 views, shows a speech by William Scott, a former official with the National Security Agency with ties to this area. According to information on the website, the speech was made to the Economic Warfare Institute at the American Center for Democracy in New York July 9, 2012. In his speech, Miller states that intelligence gathered over the years - including documents captured in Osama Bin Laden's compound - reveal that wildland arson is an accepted terrorist strategy, and he speculates that the fatal, costly local fire was part of that. To counteract the threat, he recommends the use of satellite scrutiny, around-the-clock air patrols and a large air tanker fleet. He does not discuss dollar amounts, but says it is time to stop fighting wildland fires “on the cheap.”
