Westside politickin': McElroy out of District 3 race

Citing health reasons, Democrat Tom McElroy has withdrawn from the District 3 county commissioners' race. This appears to leave the field open to Sallie Clark, the Republican candidate who easily won the primary election Aug. 10.
However, the Democrats have until Sept. 2 to submit a replacement. Also, a write-in candidate can file with the El Paso County Election Office by Sept. 3.
With that in mind, Clark told the Westside Pioneer she will “wait and see” before assuming the office is hers.
McElroy had not raised any money nor campaigned publicly. He was on the ballot, but faced no opposition in the Democratic primary.
District 3 covers the Westside, areas north and south of it, Manitou Springs and Ute Pass.
