Westside Pioneer Assis-tant Publisher Therese Jordan will man a table, giving out newspapers and meeting the public at the
Centennial King Soopers Saturday, Aug. 21 from 3 to 6 p.m.
“I'm looking forward to talking to different people about our news coverage, subscriptions and advertising,” Jordan said. “We'd like to get to know more people in this part of our circulation area.”
The Centennial King Soopers, opened in late June, is part of the new Grandview Market Place shopping center at the intersection of Fillmore Street and Centennial Boulevard.
The weekly Westside Pioneer covers the area south of Garden of the Gods Road, west of I-25, north of Cheyenne/ Broadmoor and into Manitou Springs. Published Thursdays, the paper is available for free in racks at more than 50 locations.
Merchants in Old Colorado City Historic District are being encouraged to join the annual Scarecrow Days promotion, sponsored by the Old Colorado City Associates (OCCA) merchants group. A competition for the best-looking merchants' scarecrows will culminate in judging Sept. 18.
“OCCA members make scarecrows themselves and put them on the corners,” OCCA President Nancy Stovall said. “We also ask each store to do one that reflects their business.”
Typically, about 40 stores participate, she said. The scarecrows will stay on display through Halloween.
