Vermijo Faerie Festival to be 2 days in ‘11

About 600 people visited the first-time Colorado Faerie Festival Aug. 7 in Vermijo Park, according to organizer Charlie Cagiao, and next year he hopes to make it two days.

The Colorado Faerie Festival Aug. 7 in Vermijo Park attracted a number of theme-oriented participants.

“Next year we have the park reserved for Aug. 6-7,” he said, noting that according to lore Aug. 7 is signficant as “the day that fairy dwellings appear to those who believe.”
He was happy to see that many of the attendees at the free event came in costume, including “about 70 percent” of the children.
The festival this year, which went from 10 a.m. to about 6 p.m. (when rain started falling) highlighted appearances by 20 or so individuals in elaborate costumes (including wings on their backs in most cases), vendor booths, a “fairy godmother” and an amplified rock n' roll band. Next year, Cagiao said he expects to move toward acoustic live music “with a metaphysical line,” plus add other entertainment (such as medieval-style sword-fighting groups) and interactive offerings (such as a Saturday night dance, rock painting, rock climbing and foam-sword-fighting).
