Commissioners favor Section 16 grant
|
Without dissent, El Paso County commissioners approved the county share of the Section 16 grant request to Great Outdoors
Colorado (GOCO) Aug. 5.
The estimated cost for the 640-acre park is $3.4 million, according to a county press release. The county will contribute $194,933 from its conservation trust fund (lottery money) and $5,067 from urban park fees. Other sources are the Colorado Springs Trails and Open Space Program (TOPS) and in-kind contributions. GOCO is being asked for a grant of $2,407,500, the release states. Located just south of the Red Rock Canyon Open Space, the undeveloped hillside property is state-owned.
