What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
I am the owner of C. McMullen Enterprises. The business is a consultant/ broker for cabling and telecommunications services. I am a partner with Starview Communications, which provides cabling services to large properties throughout the state. My job is to market all our services.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I am a broker for cable and satellite TV and telecommunications, including the Internet. I am responsible for coordinating sales to residential and business customers and providing customer service.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I have been doing this kind of work for 10 years. I started in the wireless field with Verizon and then T-Mobile. I have been on the Westside three years and lived here previously for six years.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I truly enjoy the technical side of my work. The technology we use to acquire signal from satellites in outer space is the part that interests me the most. I also get a great deal of satisfaction when I can give my customers great savings and value with their services.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
People's misconceptions about the technology we use. I explain the services to my customers and am always happy to answer questions.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
I was not prepared for the huge amount of information that media and advertising put out to the public about my industry. It's very much an overload to folks who just want TV, phone and Internet. My job is to cost-analyze these services and simplify the information.
What makes working on the Westside special?
The Westside is very special because of its proximity to the mountains. The people here are very down to earth and all share a love for the Westside.
“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
