Help needed for Penrose Fountain
Have you been enjoying the Julie Penrose Fountain on these hot summer days? Are you aware that this beloved fountain at the heart of our community, in America the Beautiful Park, is in jeopardy? As a result of cuts to the City's Parks and Recreation budget, the Julie Penrose Fountain could not be funded by the City this summer. As such, the “Friends of Julie Penrose Fountain,” a component fund of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation (PPCF - a 501c3 organization) was established to actively engage our community in fundraising to operate and sustain this fountain in perpetuity.
The Julie Penrose Fountain provides free, safe entertainment for children and adults of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. While the fountain operates with recirculated water, some water replacement expense is incurred due to evaporation; additionally, staffing of the fountain is required for public safety, and supplies and maintenance costs are necessary for its ongoing operation.
The El Pomar Foundation has issued a “challenge grant” to our community, which will be matched dollar for dollar up to $12,500 to sustain the Julie Penrose Fountain. Please help us raise the $12,500 necessary to match the El Pomar Challenge Grant and ensure the fountain's continued operation.
We cannot take recreational services like the Julie Penrose Fountain for granted. I know my children and hundreds of others from our community have enjoyed frolicking in the fountain this summer. Please consider what this free, safe entertainment is worth to you and your family and donate online now at www.juliepenrosefountain.org to operate the Julie Penrose Fountain for years to come. Gifts of any amount are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
