Next print date for Westside Pioneer quarterly: Aug. 14

The next printed Westside Pioneer will "hit the streets" Thursday, Aug. 14.
It will be second newspaper this year for the family-owned and operated publication, which is now primarily online after being a weekly for 10 years (January 2004 to December 2013).
The new plan is to print quarterly, while continuing to provide online news. Both services will remain free to readers. The focus continues to be the Colorado Springs Westside.
Publishers Kenyon and Therese Jordan had announced in the last weekly print issue of the Pioneer (Dec. 19, 2013) that the publication was going completely online. However, after hearing numerous requests/complaints from print-paper readers, a "Special Summer Print Edition" came out in early May with 18,000 copies.
Fewer than 100 of those copies are left. The welcome response, in turn, led to the quarterly-print decision.
The plan for the August edition is to print 13,000 copies - the smaller number reflects the reduced area population in the fall after most of the tourists are gone.
Papers will be distributed to roughly 50 long-time outlets on the Westside, including both King Soopers stores and Safeway.
In addition to August, the projected months for quarterly publishing of the Pioneer are November, February and May.
