Westside Briefs:
New free-fitness hours at center

The Westside Community Center's Fitness Center, which is free to the public, has changed its hours.
The facility is now open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 to 7 p.m.
Located in the middle building at the community center, the Fitness Center is supervised by Jessica Hickman, who provides the free public time as part of an arrangement in which she also gets to run her fitness business at the center.

       Fire impact cancels walks
Photographer Paul deBerjeois, who lost his house in the Waldo Canyon Fire, has cancelled his last two photo walks this summer in the Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center's summer series.
The walks had been scheduled Aug. 8 and 15. Other walks/presentations in the series will continue through the third week of August.
For more information, call the center at 219-0108.

       Space volunteers sought
The Space Foundation is seeking volunteers to serve as docents, greeters or operational supporters for its Visitors Center, which will open to the public this fall.
Volunteers may work as little as two four-hour shifts per month, or as often as four full days a week, conducting tours and providing information in the Visitors Center's two main areas - the Northrop Grumman Science Center and the El Pomar Space Gallery.
Training will begin in August, so potential volunteers are encouraged to apply soon. For more information, contact Space Foundation Volunteer Coordinator Jennifer Picard at volunteer@spacefoundation.org, or 576-8000. Online applications can be submitted at spacefoundation.org/donate/volunteer.
The Northrop Grumman Science Center (a multimedia educational offering) and the El Pomar Space Gallery (space artifacts and exhibits) will comprise the initial phase of the Visitors Center. Both are located at Space Foundation headquarters, 4425 Arrowswest Dr., off Garden of the Gods Road.
