GUEST COLUMN: 1-year anniversary for Silver Key at east-side location

During a late-2015 tour of the then-future Silver Key location on Murray Boulevard (near Academy and Fountain boulevards), Lorri Orwig, the agency's chief development officer, explains information on a site map. The move to Murray from Silver Key's long-time Westside home at 2250 Bott Ave. occurred in August 2016.

With one year at the new campus and $900,000 left to raise in the capital campaign, Silver Key is happy to celebrate this first anniversary. Silver Key made the move last August to its new home at 1605-1655 S. Murray Blvd., ending more than 38 years on the Westside.
New projects completed in the past year include pantry space with commercial walk-in cooler and freezer units, client shopping area, client waiting area and thrift store.
The new campus also features a dining space for up to 75, an expanded commercial kitchen and community rooms for meetings and gatherings. These new features complement the traditional services of Silver Key: transportation, case management and nutrition assistance.
All of these projects have been made possible because of the generosity of donors who have helped to raise $4.6 million of the $5.5 million capital campaign which began in April 2015. The Silver Key capital campaign is an approved El Paso County Enterprise Zone project.
Since 1971, Silver Key has provided vital services to seniors in our community, allowing them to live independently, with safety, dignity and respect. The legacy of caring and excellent customer service continues but from a welcoming, and senior-friendly space.
