17th Street traffic-calming talk Aug. 6

Planned improvements and a construction schedule will be presented at a meeting Wednesday, Aug. 6 on the 17th Street traffic-calming project.
The meeting, organized by Kristin Bennett of City Planning, will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church gym, 2021 W. Pikes Peak Ave. Citizen questions are also welcome, she said.
Previously discussed work has included a traffic circle at Boulder Street and concrete “bump-outs” to narrow the two intersections (Bijou Street and Platte Avenue) by Buena Vista Elementary.
The overall goal is to slow down vehicles that frequently use 17th as a “cut-through” between Colorado Avenue and Uintah Street.
The safety improvements were first requested by the 17th Street residents nine years ago, and last year City Traffic Engineering made it the city's number-one traffic- calming priority.
For more information, call Bennett, whose job includes coordinating the calming program, at 385-5622.
