Meet a Westsider:
Magda Martinez

Profession/Occupation... Letter carrier for United States Postal Service..

What I like most about the Westside is... Old Colorado City has neither lost its charm and individuality nor its original small town spirit and friendliness.

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... I would elect to change Old Colorado City back to being its own separate town. After all, Colorado City is historically older than Colorado Springs. Moreover, as I understand it, it was Colorado's first territorial capital, at least for a few days. Even though Colorado Springs later annexed Colorado City, the old town will never be in spirit, part of it. In fact, it is surprising how many other people in the area share my ideologies.

A good movie Iíve seen recently is... the old black-and-white movies from the 1940s and 1950s. British BBC comedies are also my favorites.

I'd like to discover... Where to begin? There are new thoughts to ponder, places to explore, friends to meet, artistic endeavors to create, moments to share, and all waiting to be discovered and enjoyed. I delight in discovering or learning a minimum of one new thing each day.

If I could meet someone famous, Iíd like to meet... Leonardo DaVinci would be my choice. His vision, creativity and technique were incredible.

The next time I travel, Iím going to... visit my sister Linda, her husband Steve and my three adorable little nieces in Rome, Italy.

My favorite childhood memory is... traveling through the castles and countrysides in Europe, specifically Germany, where I was born and was a citizen for 18 years.

My favorite summer pastime is... riding my bicycle and motor scooter through Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs and surrounding areas. Additionally, exploring the fantastic places in Colorado and gardening in my tiny cottage area are lots of fun.

Something good Iíve read is.. I enjoy British mystery thrillers written during the 1930s and 1940s.

My pet peeve is... Lazy, inattentive and self-absorbed driving skills from motorists, especially around Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs where there are numerous cyclists, motor bikes, motor scooters, pedestrians, horseback riders, and the like. In other words, all of us make mistakes on the road from time to time, but please pay attention.

If I didnít have to work for a year I would... travel to Europe to paint, draw and photograph the breathtaking historical beauties. I would also purchase a home in either charming Old Colorado City or lovely Manitou Springs, and enjoy fixing the place and creating the gardens.
