What do you do?
Karen Holloway

Where do you work and what is your title?
I am the co-owner of Boutique 2421 Point 5. We sell custom-made jewelry and costumes, hats, soaps and incense
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
Anything and everything and more. One of the many things I do is jewelry design. I’ve also recently restarted my apparel design in the most fun areas of steampunk, some cosplay and performance apparel, belly dance and period costuming.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
Total years in jewelry design is about 15 years. Apparel costume design 25 years. We’ve been on the Westside three years.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
Five minutes before quitting time’s not bad. Even better are the new and creative ideas that come in our doors every week.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
Love, love, love a larger store to fill with more fun and unique things.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
The dogs. No, really this is one doggy town! The cats need to be represented.
What makes working on the Westside special?
It’s such a huge small community.

“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
