Got any extra dirt? Academy ACL charter could use 817 tons for new playground

The planned new playground for the Academy for Advanced & Creative Learning (AACL) needs dirt… a lot of it.
Nikki Myers, director of the K-8 charter school at 2510 N. Chestnut St., estimated the need at 817 tons, as of July 18. And that was after 17 truckloads already.
“We've got a lot more dirt to go, so ways to get the word out would be great,” she said.
Thanks to a school fundraising effort and a $110,000 state grant, the old gravel space behind the school is to be transformed into a landscaped area with unique play elements that were chosen with the help of students.
The dirt will help shape aspects such as caves, mounds and a sloped climbing wall, based on plans.
For more information, Myers can be reached at nikkimyers@academyacl.org.
