Late August eyed for Washburn completion

The Ruth Washburn School's 1,600-square-foot expansion is on schedule for a late-August completion - just in time for the cooperative nursery school's reopening Sept. 7.
With the construction, “Things have been pretty exciting,” said Administrative Director Leslie Versace, good-naturedly. “It's a huge mess.”
The project is adding 1,600 square feet to the 5,000-square-foot converted home at 914 N. 19th St., which was built in 1974. In addition, some existing space is being remodeled and more parking spaces are being created..
While Ruth Washburn will not take in more children because of the expansion, the project will provide permanent space for a 15-student, mixed- age class (3- and 4-year olds) was which added last fall. The class had been using a temporary room, Versace said.
The builder is Charlie Paterson Construction, a longtime Westside company. Groundbreaking was March 3.
