Sgt. Maj. George Payton was pictured in a photo of the 10th U.S. Cavalry Buffalo Soldiers in one of the Westside Pioneer photos in the July 6 issue of the
Independence Day activites at the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site.
The volunteer unit, which appears regularly in area events or at schools, performs riding maneuvers, simulates military actions and explains the lives and significance of the 1800s all-black cavalry in the American West.
