Nationally touring musicians to perform for fire fundraiser

A fundraising concert for Waldo Canyon fire victims will feature national known folk and blues musicians Peter Karp and the Sue Foley Band at the Gold Hill Mesa Community Center Sunday, July 15 from 4 to 8 p.m.
The center is at 142 S. Raven Mine Drive, accessible from Lower Gold Camp Road. The concert will be held on the grassy area next to the center; if it rains, the event will move inside it, a press release states.
“With the Waldo Canyon fire still vivid in everyone's memory, community support is at an all-time high,” reads a statement from Amy Whitesell of A Music Company Inc., organizer of the concert. “One hundred percent of all funds raised through this event will go to a combination of charities - Pikes Peak Community Foundation has established a fund specific to the Waldo Canyon Fire and our Red Cross.”
Admission is free, Whitesell said in a follow-up interview. However, “we will pass a can for donations, and food vendors will donate a portion of their sales.”
In addition to the music, activities for children are planned, including face painting by people from Imagination Celebration, she said.
Foley, Carp and their entourage “were passing through Colorado from New Mexico and agreed to donate their services for the benefit of our community,” Whitesell said. “This is a great opportunity for music fans to enjoy this national touring act and help the community in doing so.”
