What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
I'm an insurance representative for State Farm Agent Kelly Muse.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
In short, I quote, review and make changes, accept payments, submit claims, and everything in between.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I've been working in this type of position for around 12 years, almost 9 years on the Westside with Kelly.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
The best part of my job is meeting new people and enjoying lasting relationships with our long-time clients. I've been able to see their kids grow up, begin driving, buy homes of their own, and start their lives as adults. (Now I really feel old!)
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
People seem to have a love/hate attitude toward insurance. I wish people understood that some things are completely out of our hands and beyond our control, but we try to do the best and right thing for our clients each and every time.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
The different types of people we encounter, whether they walk into the office or call. People handle their business differently and I've had to learn how to listen and respond to a variety of concerns given in many different ways.
What makes working on the Westside special?
There is a wonderful mix of people on the Westside! I also enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains every morning.
“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
