Meet a Westsider:
Taryn Sweeney

Profession/Occupation... This depends on the day – I have three big jobs: owner of White Rabbit Beads in Old Colorado City, doctoral student in art history, and manager of HUA Inc. (a local company that deals primarily in lasers and holography).

What I like most about the Westside is... the community! I love seeing all the familiar faces and meeting the new ones to the neigborhood. I also love the hometown feeling – it’s a small town in the middle of a largely growing city. So nice!

If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... I would add a juice place. I love fruit smoothies. Yum.

A good movie I’ve seen recently is... I watch a lot of old movies, so my current favorite is “The Philadelphia Story,” with Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart and Katherine Hepburn. It’s funny it’s sweet, and visually a great black-and-white movie.

I'd like to discover... Nirvana.

If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... the late Jim Henson – from the Muppets to Sesame Street to Fraggle Rock to the Labyrinth – his creativity never ceases to astonish me.

The next time I travel, I’m going... probably New York – I go there often for my studies. Also Italy – I go once a year to Siena for a residency for my PhD program.

My favorite childhood memory is... fishing with my dad on the Lakes of the Ozarks.

My favorite summer pastime is... yoga!

Something good I’ve read is... that’s tough – I read a lot! My latest favorite is Fool, by Christopher Moore. It’s a re-telling of Shakespeare’s King Lear from the point of view of the fool – hilarious and clever, overall a refreshing telling of a rather dark story.

My pet peeve is... rudeness- it’s not necessary. Civility is something I feel we could all be remined about.

If I didn’t have to work for a year, I would... I’d read all of P.G. Wodehouse’s books, do yoga every day and catch up on my sleep.
