What do you do?
Jenny McCreight

Where do you work and what is your title?
I am a hairstylist at Rocky Mountain Styles.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
Besides doing haircuts, colors and perms, I also help clean up shop, organize and decorate.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I have been a stylist for 11 years, 3 on the Westside and here at this location a little over a month.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I like the friendly atmosphere of the shop. It’s very relaxing. I enjoy working with people, listening to them and being able to make them feel and look good by giving them a great haircut, color and/or perm.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
I did! I moved from a corporate-run hair salon to a shop that’s owned by an individual... and I’m a lot happier!
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
The hardest part and what we’re not taught in cosmetology school is how to deal with people’s personal problems. As a stylist, I need to learn how to let go and realize that people don’t expect me to have the answer, but just to be a good and sympathetic listener.
What makes working on the Westside special?
Working on the Westside is ... unique and the people here are just as unique as the buildings!

“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
