Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo at Norris-Penrose Center July 8-11
The 69th annual Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Days will be July 8-11 in the Norris-Penrose Event Center's stadium.
The competition/festival will follow the seventh annual Ride for the Brand Championship Rodeo - part of the Working Ranch Cowboy Association (WRCA) circuit - which will be in the same venue Saturday, July 4.
Pikes Peak or Bust is part of the professional rodeo tour. Events will include steer wrestling, bareback bronc riding, tie-down roping, saddle bronc riding, team roping, women's barrel racing and bull riding.
Ticket prices for the five performances (one each night, plus two on Saturday, July 11) range from $10 to $29, with some discounts. There is a chance to watch for free - the “slack” competion in timed events starting at 8 a.m. July 8.
As with Ride for the Brand, starting at 6 p.m. July 4, tickets are available through Tickets West or at the gate.
Before the Pikes Peak or Bust performances, outside the rodeo arena will be a variety of activities, including “gunfights,” roping demonstrations, Mutton Bustin' (a chance for children to ride on a running sheep), Mountain Men encampment, Indian dancing and autograph opportunities with rodeo queens. A meal cooked in Old West style by chuckwagon teams competing in a cook-off July 11 can be purchased for $10.
The Atomic Fireballs band will play after the rodeo each night.
Since 1946, the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Foundation has been donating proceeds from the event to charities benefiting local military personnel and their families.
