Clark wins Republican primary

Taking a first step in her re-election bid, two-term District 3 County Commissioner Sallie Clark handily defeated Karen Magistrelli in the Republican Primary June 26.

The district takes in much of western El Paso County, including the Westside.
In the Nov. 6 General Election, Clark will face Democrat John Morris. A Westside Pioneer article June 21 mistakenly omitted Morris' candidacy. An interview with Morris appears at right.
Asked about the Primary, Clark said she was pleased to win and plans to campaign against Morris, but such political issues are “kind of overshadowed” currently by the Waldo Canyon Fire. The entire blaze - at least through press deadline - has been in her commission district (which extends north to the boundary of the Air Force Academy). “It's devastating right now,” she said.
Magistrelli gathered more support than Clark at the Republican County Assembly in March, giving her the top ballot position, but could not recreate that success with voters. In the mail-in Primary, Clark won about 60 percent of the ballots.
In other Republican Primary results affecting the Westside...
  • District 5 U.S. Representative - Incumbent Doug Lamborn defeated Robert Blaha.
  • University of Colorado Regent (at large) - Brian Davidson bested Matt Arnold.
