Ride for the Brand, chuckwagons at Norris-Penrose July 2
Teams of working cowboys from 11 Western ranches will compete in the ninth annual Ride for the Brand Championship Ranch Rodeo & Chuckwagon Cook-off Saturday, July 2 at the Norris-Penrose Event Center, 1045 Lower Gold Camp Road.
Rodeo tickets range from $10 to $20 (with general admission discounts for children). The event starts at 6:30 p.m. The admission cost includes live music after the rodeo by Syd Masters and the Swing Riders.
Four of the events in the rodeo will be featured (wild horse racing, wild cow milking, team doctoring and trailer loading). Events are timed and judged, with final scores tallied at the end of the rodeo.
The branding and sorting events will take place earlier in the day (at 1 p.m.), and the public can watch them at no charge.
The Chuckwagon Cook-off will start at 4:30 p.m. There's a separate cost of $15 to eat food cooked by the chuckwagon teams, who are competing for food-preparation prizes.
Ride for the Brand is a sanctioned rodeo in the national Working Ranch Cowboys Association (WRCA) tour. Proceeds will go to local military charities, WRCA Scholarship Fund and the WRCA Crisis Fund.
