Starlight Spectacular cycle ride starts, finishes at GoG Visitor Center June 20

The 21st annual Starlight Spectacular cycling event will be Saturday, June 20, starting at 10:30 p.m. from the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center.
Not a race, the nighttime ride offers loops between 14 and 22 miles, including portions through Old Colorado City and Garden of the Gods on the Westside, before finishing back at the Visitor Center.
The event is a fundraiser for the Westside-based Trails and Open Space Coalition, a nonprofit advocacy group in the Pikes Peak region since 1987. Close to 1,500 riders are expected to participate.
”We ride on streets, with lots of lighted directional signs and volunteers pointing the way,” a press release states. “Two rest stops with music and refreshments enliven the route.”
The cost is $45 a person (with discounts for children, seniors, families or military). This includes pre-ride food and activities and a breakfast afterward at the center. People can also sign up the night of the ride.
Helmets are required, as are lights, both front and rear.
Activities will start at 9 p.m., including a live band and a costume contest. For more information, call 633-6884 or go to starlightspectacular.org.
