What do you do?
Alicia Griggs

Where do you work and what is your title?
I am the owner of Elements of Art Gallery.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
Besides selling abstract art, I give art and fused glass classes. I also do all the buying and the bookkeeping for the gallery.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
Iíve been an artist for as long as I can remember, but have worked as a professional since 1978 when I had my own graphic arts and screen printing business. Iíve been here at this location for exactly a year this month.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I like being in what is known as an art district. I like doing art and feel that Iím good at selling it. Itís fun to hear how people interpret the abstract art that we carry in our gallery. I also enjoy having the time to work on my paintings.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
I would prefer not having street closures that take away from the feel of an art gallery district.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
The creative ways people come up with for shoplifting. Also, I wonder how much bigger baby strollers can get before you need a license to drive them.
What makes working on the Westside special?
I think Old Colorado City is one of the most beautiful, historical downtown areas in all of Colorado. Itís a very attractive place and also close to where I live.
