Contractor readying Bijou off-ramp

Construction is occurring that could make it possible to open the new southbound off-ramp from I-25 onto westbound Bijou Street in early June - nearly four months earlier than orginally planned.
Work includes new concrete on the interstate leading up the Bijou bridge and the rebuilding of the block between the bridge and Spruce Street, with a raised median and new accesses to Denny's and the Clarion Hotel. The bridge itself is still not slated to open until October.
Traffic-flow plans for the early off-ramp opening, prepared by I-25 (“COSMIX”) contractor Rockrim-mon Constructors, are being reviewed by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and City Traffic Engineering.
Pressure for an early ramp opening has come from businesses in that block of Bijou, who have suffered a major loss of trade, according to reports.

In other COSMIX news... The left third lane on southbound I-25 will be closed from June 1 to early August between Fontanero and Bijou streets.
The closure will allow slab and joint work. Two lanes will remain open to traffic, a Rockrimmon press release states.
