Red Rock east-west trail effort starts June 3

A volunteer project Saturday, June 3 will start a multi-workday, summer-long effort to complete an east-west trail connection traversing three canyons in the upper reaches of Red Rock Canyon Open Space.
According to Sarah Keith of Colorado Springs Parks, 50 to 100 workers are needed to build a quarter to half a mile of trail that will range in construction difficulty from “technical to relatively easy.”
City Parks and the REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) store are working together in planning the project. Volunteers are asked to sign up with REI, 1376 Woodmen Road (phone 260-1455). People will meet at 7:30 a.m. in the unofficial parking lot area north of Sand Canyon, which will be opened for the project, according to Keith.
Other workdays are planned this summer to continue work on the east-west segment, principally with the Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado Aug. 26 and Oct. 14.
