The public is invited to join El Paso County Commissioner Stan VanderWerf in hiking the Bear Creek Nature Center's Song Bird Trail Saturday, June 3 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Starting from the center, 245 Bear Creek Road, the stroll will mark National Trails Day.
“Meet other outdoor enthusiasts and listen to the birds, enjoy the great outdoors and hike with your District 3 commissioner,” a press release states.
“I love hiking,” said VanderWerf, who also makes mountain-climbing a hobby. “I've been doing it my whole life. I like getting out in nature, and I see this as way to use my position to promote outdoor activities and better health.”
District 3 includes the Colorado Springs Westside.
The Song Bird trail loop is about a half-mile in all, according to a local trail guide.
The hike is free, but advance signups are requested through Eventbrite. The Nature Center can be reached at 520-6387, or contact christineburns@elpasoco.com.
