More streetlight bad luck for district

A story on the Near Westside's Gateway District in the May 10 Westside Pioneer noted how the district had recently repositioned and revamped its historic-style streetlights, in part because of motorists reducing their number by running into them.
Sure enough, that same week, an errant driver knocked down two district-planted trees and one of its light poles in the 600 block of Colorado Avenue..
Now the district, whose mill levy typically raises just enough to cover basic maintenance, must scramble for money to fix the damage.
“Every year we go through the same thing,” commented a disgruntled Dennis Sharon, the property owner who has led district maintenance efforts for several years.
