4 pools (3 privately run) to be open to the public

The privately owned Colorado Springs Swim School (CSSS), in cooperation with the City of Colorado Springs, will assume day-to-day operations of Wilson Ranch, Portal Pool and the Aquatic and Fitness Center (AFC).
The first two pools are slated to open for the summer, including public swim times and instruction, while the AFC (in Memorial Park) will not reopen until about Sept. 1, according to a press release from CSSS owner Tina Dessart.
City Parks is continuing operation of only one other public swimming facility it has operated in the past - the pool at the Cottonwood Creek Recreation Center, 3920 Dublin Blvd. In addition, swimming opportunities are available for the disabled through the city's Therapeutic Recreation Program.
CSSS has offered learn-to-swim programming since 1992. Other services include competitive swim teams (in partnership with the Colorado Springs Swim Team), aquatic fitness, adaptive aquatics, lifeguard training, CPR training and First Aid training.
Wilson Ranch pool is at 2335 Allegheny Drive. Portal Pool is at 3535 N. Hancock Ave.
CSSS provides free and reduced price swim lessons to those who qualify. Otherwise, pool-goers will find slightly higher prices than before, Dessart said.
The city has been tremendous with assisting us to make this happen,” she said. “Colorado Springs is such a wonderful place. Losing these facilities and the activities associated with them would be a travesty for the community, not to mention the potential for drowning statistics to increase.”
