What do you do?
Susie Cheesman

Where do you work and what is your title?
I am the church adminstrative assistant at Trinity UMC.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I am responsible for preparing the weekly church bulletins, monthly newsletter, building use and keeping a very busy church organized.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
Before this, I was a stay-at-home mom and ran a small independent business, which I still do on the side. I have worked in this position at my church for 3 1/2 years.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
Seeing people that I know and care about everyday. Hopefully, helping someone the best way I know how, making them know they matter in our crazy world. Everyone has a place.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
To be able to help right away everybody who comes to the door or calls when they need extra help, food or assistance. I give them what I can (at least peanut butter and bread) until they can get the assistance that Westside CARES provides.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
Pain Ė whether it be from the death of a loved one, dealing with sickness or being homeless or hungry Ė just people in need. Sometimes itís overwhelming and so sad.
What makes working on the Westside special?
Itís home, Iíve lived here all my life. Not a day goes by that I donít see someone I know. Itís been a blessing to know so many kind and wonderful people all through my life. Iím just very happy to have been raised in such a great place. My mom and dad still live here on the Westside. Itís just Home...sweet Home.

ďWhat do you do?Ē is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesnít live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
