Berg permanent Whittier principal

Marlys Berg, who stepped in as interim principal at Whittier Elementary this semester, has been named permanent principal at the school.
“I'm very happy about that,” Berg said. “I can start planning.”
She has been with the district 15 years, as a teacher and administrator. This is her first job as head principal. She had been assistant principal at Rudy Elementary before coming to Whittier.
School District 11 spokesperson Elaine Naleski said the district decided to retain Berg “because as interim principal, she displayed all the characteristics of the type of principal that staff and parents and the district felt were needed at Whittier. They were very pleased with her work.”
Berg had replaced Larry Richardson, who went on indefinite leave after the first semester.
Whittier, built at the turn of the century at 2904 W. Kiowa St., is one of the oldest schools in the district.
