Markworths soapbox ‘Family of Year’

       The Westside's Markworth family has been selected the Colorado winner in “Family of the Year” judging tied in with their ongoing participation in Soap Box Derby racing.
       “As a state winner, the family will represent Colorado in the search for 12 regional finalists, one of which will be named 2006 Levi Strauss Signature brand national Family of the Year,” explains a press release, adding that the winner “will be awarded a trip to the 69th annual All-American Soap Box Derby Championship July 22 in Akron, Ohio, where they will be honored during weekend activities and receive a full wardrobe courtesy of Levi Strauss Signature brand.”
       The Markworths were nominated by Glenn Scott, who is the director of the Colorado Springs Derby chapter. The family consist of parents Don and Jill and children Emily (11), Ben (7) and Will (4).
       They build their own cars and compete in city soap derby championships. Don Markworth also coaches and mentors other drivers.
       “It's pretty exciting; it's fun” Markworth said of the Family of the Year award possibility.
