Talk: Business life in Cripple Creek heyday
|
Cal Otto, an antique book collector and President of the Pikes Peak Library District Foundation, will be the guest speaker May 12 at the Old Colorado City History
Center, 1 S. 24th St.
The title of the free presentation, starting at 11 a.m., will be “Unlocking the Mystery of a Cripple Creek Businessman.” Otto will present a slide lecture about Mortitz Glauber, a clothing merchant in Cripple Creek from 1893 to 1902. The information will also reveal general information about businesses in Cripple Creek during the gold-mining heyday. ““Much has been written about Cripple Creek gold mines and miners, but very little has been produced about the commercial life in the mining town,” reads a press release from the Old Colorado City Historical Society (OCCHS), the volunteer organization that runs the History Center.
