Meet a Westsider:
What I like most about the Westside is... living close to the mountains. I can drive right up the mountain and fish at Pikes Peak, Rampart and many other lakes. I really like having deer in our yard and the yards of our neighbors.
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... The streets in this area and the infrastructure are in bad shape. I know the city is struggling but when the potholes are as big as your car, it is a shame.
A good movie Iíve seen recently is... ďThe Hurt Locker.Ē It is a movie about the people in the armed forces that find Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and disarm them. It was very exciting and thrilling to me. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I'd like to discover... a big vein of gold in our hills. My family and I like to look for rocks and minerals. It would be exciting to find something really valuable.
If I could meet someone famous, Iíd like to meet... All the famous people Iíd like to meet are dead. I would have liked to live in the Old West days. I would have been a gunslinger. Matt Dillon, Miss Kitty, Festus and Doc are my kind of people.
The next time I travel, Iím going to... South Carolina to see my older son, Cosme and his wife, Missy. I really like the South. The humidity feels really good to my knees. My wife (Lisa), son (Dominick) and I traveled there six years ago in a 1976 Buick Century. Driving on vacation beats air travel any day. I like to see the sights.
My favorite childhood memory is... walking from the Southgate area every Saturday with my brother Floyd, who has passed away. When I would get tired, he would put me on his shoulders and walk. We would climb all the rocks in Garden of the Gods without ropes and equipment. You didnít have to have it back in the 1970s.
My favorite pastime is... I love to fish. My son has been fishing since he was old enough to hold a fishing pole. He will fish any day of the year. He breaks holes in the ice at Quail Lake to fish in the winter. He and I both stay out of trouble with this pastime.
Something good Iíve read is... ďA Stone for Danny Fisher,Ē by Harold Robbins. Itís a story about a boy and his memories of the home that he lived in as a child. His family lost the home and then as a man, he acquired the home again.
My pet peeve is... bad drivers. I am a very impatient person! When people do not look to see what is happening on the road ahead of them, it annoys me no end. I will honk at you.
If I didnít have to work for a year, I would... Iíve actually gotten to do this for the past year. I have gotten to read more books, spend time with my family and work on my home. I was laid off from my construction job a little over a year ago. I have enjoyed not having to work.
