Empty Bowl dinner to raise money for Care and Share at West April 25
The public is invited to an Empty Bowl fundraising dinner Wednesday, April 25, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in West Middle School's cafeteria.
Sponsored by the middle school and the West Intergenerational Center, the event will raise money for Care and Share's food bank, according to West teacher Taran Goetz.
Tickets are $15 for families, $10 for individuals and $5 for seniors. Each ticket-buyer will receive a pottery bowl made by the middle school's art students (instructed by art teacher Adie Stahl). About 150 bowls will be available, Goetz said.
Entrance will be through the West Center, 25 N. 20th St. Tickets will be available at the door or can be purchased in advance at the center or the school.
The meal will consist of soup, bread, dessert and a drink.
The idea came out of Service Learning classes that Goetz and fellow West teacher Connie Graven have been taking. The goal was to have “students work with the community and to have a closer collaboration with the West Center,” Goetz said.
The “empty bowl” concept, used successfully for years for an annual event in the Tri-Lakes area, has been spreading as a fund-raising tool.
