Meet a Westsider:
Currently my predominant activity is serving in various volunteer positions with different organizations in town. I am a retired chief warrant officer three (CW-3), having served 23 years in the Army.
What I like most about the Westside is... Without a doubt, the character and uniqueness. Our Westside feels like our own little town within the city.
If I could change anything about the Westside, it would be... I am not sure change is the proper context for my answer but I would really like to see some of the blighted infrastructure repaired, renovated or redeveloped.
A good movie I’ve seen recently is... Honestly I have not been to a movie theater since 1998 and I do not own a TV. However, if I reach back into my movie database memory bank I will tell you one of my favorite movies is “Waking Ned Devine.”
I'd like to discover... I would like to discover a way that would motivate all individuals to become more active and involved in the political process at all levels of government but especially the local level. I have observed that elected officials at all levels represent individual groups as opposed to the individual.
If I could meet someone famous, I’d like to meet... When I saw this question, the first person that came to mind is the economist, Dr. Thomas Sowell. I have read a number of his books and I am a regular reader of his syndicated columns. His interviews on “uncommon knowledge” are absolutely stimulating as well. He has a profound impact on my thought process.
The next time I travel, I’m going... I do not have any plans for travel at this time, but if I was able I would not mind visiting Australia and New Zealand.
My favorite childhood memory is... This one is easy. It was the day my younger sister was born. I don’t think I have ever been more excited for anything ever to happen in my life. My parents even allowed me to pick her name.
My favorite spring pastime is... cooking on the grill and sitting outside to dine in the nice weather on the patio.
Something good I’ve read is... everything by Dr. Thomas Sowell as well as a book by the French philosopher and economist Frederic Bastiat titled “The Law.” It is only 58 pages long and is one of the most insightful works I have ever read.
My pet peeve is... Elected public servants who use deceptive rhetoric to get in office and proceed to be self-serving as opposed to providing selfless service.
If I didn’t have to work for a year, I would... do exactly what I am doing now.
