D-11 earmarks April 21 for kindergarten registration - but other dates OK, tooRegistration for preschool or kindergarten at District 11 schools for the 2017-18 school year is scheduled Friday, April 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Parents should bring proof of residence and their child's birth certificate and immunization record.
The 21st is not a classroom day in D-11, so only staff people will be at the schools; however, parents or guardians can schedule different days to suit their schedules by calling the school of their choice.
In conjunction with kindergarten sign-up, the Westside's Howbert Elementary, is offering a workshop for kindergarten parents Thursday, April 27 from 4 to 5 p.m. The teachers “will have tables set up with activities to help parents learn about the kindergarten program, the academics and assessments,” a Howbert press release states. “Each family will fill a bag with take-home activities designed to help prepare their child for a successful kindergarten year.”
All District 11 schools offer free, full-day kindergarten, with the exception of some charter schools that have half-time with full-day tuition options, the D-11 website states.
People not sure of what attendance area they live in can contact the nearest school and inquire there. Such information can also be found on the website at http://d11.org/Enrollment/Pages/kindergarten.aspx.
Because District 11 is a “choice” district, children can also be enrolled at schools outside their attendance area, as long as there is space and the family can provide transportation.
