Superintendents help celebrate reading
Bristol Elementary had 13 guest readers, including District 11 Superintendent Terry Bishop and Deputy Superintendent Mary Thurman, at its annual
Celebrate Reading Day March 20.
Traditionally following days of Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) testing, Celebrate Reading provides an experience that's “fun and educational,” according to Bristol librarian Joan Grant.
The Colorado High School Activities Association has recognized the Coronado High girls swimming and diving team as 5-A academic team champions. The team had a combined, non-weighted GPA of 3.79 - the highest combined GPA of all 5-A girls swim teams in the state.
This is Coronado's third Academic Team State Championship. Girls track won in 1998 and girls basketball in 1999.
The team members are: Kali Allison, Kara Allison, Catherine Bradley, Laurel Johnson, Savannah Weis and Rachel Wolf (seniors); Erin Donovan, Anna Gregorich, Alexis Rodarmel and Michelle Stauffer (juniors); Krista Albers, Rosie Bradley, Catrina Mitros and Natalie Essells (sophomores); and Morgan DeWitt, Ashlyn Duffy, Karissa Houghton, Taylor Kay, Kaitlyn Martinez and Katie Pina (freshmen).
The coaches are Karen Busovsky, Felissa Jacobsen and Donna Stephenson.
The Buena Vista Elementary PTA will sponsor an “Art & Pie Night” Friday, April 11 to raise money for the art, music and PE departments.
The event will be from 6 to 9 p.m. at the neighborhood/Montessori school, 1620 W. Bijou St.
Fundraising efforts will include pie sales, raffles and a silent auction on items donated by local businesses. Live music will be provided by Buena Vista parents.

Several students from Westside schools won in their categories at the regional History Day in February and will go on to state competition May 3 in Denver.
