Multicultural event at West April 21 features range of ethnic offerings

An “Evening in America” will offer a taste - in more ways than one - of different ethnic cultures Wednesday, April 21 at West Middle School.
The event, from 6 to 8 p.m., is free and open to the public.
In addition to an international sampler buffet, the schedule calls for the following:
        · Slavic dancers
       · Scottish dancers
       · Mexican mariachis
       · 50s-60s music
       · Japanese dancing
       · A visit from the Tuskegee Airmen (black pilots from World War II)
       · Colors presented by the Air Force Academy Honor Guard
       · A speech by Colorado Springs Mayor Lionel Rivera
The event is being organized by the West Middle School Multicultural Committee, according to Spanish teacher Dorinda Barela.
“We're celebrating our ethnicity,” she said. “We're Americans from different backgrounds, though we're all one country.”
