What do you do?
Where do you work and what is your title?
I work at JM Weston Homes. We build townhomes at Gold Hill Mesa. I am the sales manager.
What do you do there and/or what are you responsible for?
I’m in charge of sales, which includes showing the clients the community and models available, filling out contracts, working out construction details (such as finishes that the client wants) and finally, the closing.
How long have you been doing this kind of work (total)? How long on the Westside?
I have been in the new-home industry for 15 years and worked on the Westside for 2 years.
What do you like best about it (other than quitting time)?
I love the Gold Hill Mesa community. The people I have helped purchase a new home make this job enjoyable.
If you could change one thing (other than pay), what would it be?
What the public hears about this industry. Right now, because the economy is not strong, people are led to believe that it's not a good idea to be buying a home. However, it's mostly rumor and outdated information. Looking at today's rates here in Colorado Springs, it's a great time to buy a home.
What part of your work did your training/education never prepare you for?
Learning how to deal with different personalities. You can't sell to everyone the same way. I took a personality training seminar to learn how to understand and sell to different personality types. It's amazing that just by the way someone says hello or shakes your hand you can determine their personality traits.
What makes working on the Westside special?
The location is ideal – the folks that choose to live on this side of town are unique and I love how proud they are of their community.
“What do you do?” is a regular feature in the Westside Pioneer. If you know someone who has an interesting job on the Westside (but doesn’t live here), he/she might be a candidate for this column! If you know someone who might qualify, give us a call at 471-6776.
