April 3 – OCC’s first Art Walk of ‘09

Old Colorado City's art galleries will hold their first First Friday Art Walk of 2009 Friday, April 3 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The free event will be tied in with Old Colorado City's businesses' recently started charity drive. People are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to Westside CARES, which provides emergency care to the needy.
Note: Art Walk press releases have been including the under-construction Simpich Showcase at 2413 W. Colorado Ave as one of the “15 galleries” in the April event; however, business owner David Simpich said in a recent interview he does not expect the Showcase to be open until May.
Continuing through December, the monthly Art Walks celebrate Old Colorado City's art activity and typically include openings, artist receptions, demonstrations and/or live music.
The Hunter-Wolff Gallery, 2510 W. Colorado Ave., will present an opening for artists Jean Houghton, Janelle Cox and Kathryn McMahon; a book signing by children's book author Mary Stern and illustrator Kathy Sullivan; demonstrations by stained-glass artist Gary Vigen; and live music by pianist Liz Kochis.
The Arati Artists cooperative, 2425 W. Colorado Ave., will feature members Reveille Kennedy and Karen Standridge.
