1st OCC Art Walk of the season April 2

Old Colorado City artists and gallery owners are bringing back their First Friday Art Walk for another season, starting Friday, April 2 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The free event, typically including show openings, entertainment, snacks and opportunities to see artists at work, is hosted annually by Old Colorado City galleries and art studios on the first Friday of the month from April to December.
Overall, according to Sharon Wolff, an art gallery owner and a lead organizer of Art Walk, more than 400 individual artists exhibit work for purchase in Old Colorado City's art galleries - “the largest concentration of galleries in Colorado Springs within three city blocks.”
The April 2 Art Walk will include two new participants - the Second Floor Studios (a dozen or so artists who rent studio space on the second floor of the Garman building at Colorado Avenue and Colbrunn Court) and the Range Gallery (owned by Kathleen McFadden and recently relocated from Manitou Springs to 2428 W. Colorado Ave.).
Other participants are All that Glitters, Arati Artists Gallery, Cucuru, Hunter-Wolff Gallery, Michael Garman Museum, Pine Creek Art Gallery, Simpich Showcase, Squash Blossom, Thunder Mountain Trading Co. and Velez Galleries.
Also new this year for the Art Walk is having a “title sponsor.” As the single largest contributor to the 2010 ArtWalk in Old Colorado City, ENT Business Banking's name will be added to all the Art Walk promotional event materials, Wolff said.
“Like any cultural program or project that is developed for the benefit of the public, there are ongoing marketing and promotional expenses, including advertising (TV, radio, print, collateral materials such as brochures, banners, flyers, postcards, printing/ shipping, postage, web development and hosting, etc.),” she elaborated. “Wha-tever action taken to communicate to our audience each month about Art Walk does not come free. The galleries pick up all other costs for refreshments and their own communications/advertising in addition to an annual fee for participation. Monthly expenses not covered include refreshments, live entertainment, promotional gifts and extra clerical help.”
